Today I am off work so that I can go with D for his 2nd cataract
surgery. Technically I could have gone in for a couple hours, but
decided not to. I went in yesterday and pre-packed about 54 orders so
that R wouldn't have to do so many today by herself. The clinic
called on Friday and left a message that D's check-in time has been
changed to 12:15 pm today. While I don't know what his original
schedule had been (he isn't very talkative at times!), this change means
he is most likely scheduled now for about 2 pm or so. Last time we had
to be there about 7:30 and he was scheduled for the surgery to start
about 9:15 am. I do want to leave about 15 minutes early so that I can
stop & pay off the rest of my chiropractor bill. It seems when
we changed our plan for this year, that we messed me up on my visits
there - they will only pay if I was referred by our primary Dr. - so 5
visits in & I am finding out I have no coverage on it - so $200
out of my pocket.
I got a phone call on Friday from D (our oldest) saying that she was on her way to the ER & that she hadn't gotten A packed yet for her visit with me. She had planned to do that in the 2 hours after she got off work & before I got off work. Anyway, as she was doing her final list of things to complete her shift at the convenience store, she was beside a trash can that has a metal ring/plate in the top that is an ashtray. Evidently it has been loose for a while and no one was getting it fixed. We had some pretty good winds blowing Friday & a burst caught that ashtray and it hit D in the side of the head and then flew on across the street. She knew she had been hit, but not that she had been injured until she noticed blood hitting the concrete drive. Her left ear had been cut - the area towards the back of her head where the curves kind of straighten out (kind of hard to describe) and a V cut had been left. So she spent 6 hours at the ER, had a CT scan (luckily Workman's Comp should cover it since she doesn't have insurance for herself) and then the cut was glued back together after being cleaned again. I saw it on Saturday and while it was bruised and a little swollen, it really didn't look terribly bad, but I am sure she will have a scar - but a scar is better than a V! She blames it on Friday, the 13th. But I know it wasn't Friday, the 13th when she was bitten by the zebra in 2005! I think she just has freak accidents!
I was up way too late last night, so my eyes are tired, but I still had to get up early this morning and get my Avon order submitted before we leave here to head to the clinic. Not a terribly big order this time. I think people are saving their money a bit more right now.
Yesterday was D's 58th birthday and on the way home from dropping A off, I decided to stop & get a small cake (said it was 1/16th of a sheet cake) and some ice cream. If they would have had Spumoni, I would have gotten that in a heartbeat, but around here, they only have it near Christmas & Easter now. So I got to looking and saw some that said it was chocolate chip oatmeal cookie - sounded good. But we both disliked it! The oatmeal part tasted raw & it had caramel in it. I didn't expect the caramel. So much though for my diet for that day! Really the 3rd day, but will get back to normal tomorrow.
I noticed last night that my daffodils are sprouted! Either Spring is arriving early or they will get nipped in the bud! I did notice that we have some grass sprouting also though. I could use Spring, but it still seems early! We have had the good fortune of the office finally warming up some. Seems that since it was so late in November when it was decided that we weren't going to get the heat pumps put in, the building had gotten way too cold for the space heaters to do much good and the occasional day that the temps rose just wasn't enough to get the building warmed back up. But this past week of 60-70+ temps has done the trick. We still get chilly, but it is not near as shivery cold as it was in there! Now we are trying to decide if we take down the plastic sheeting for the summer months, leave it in place or just roll it up to the ceiling. I am inclined for us to do the latter - then we can have the air circulation for the summer months, but not have to have someone tall come in to put it back up for us next year if the heat pumps don't get taken care of.

- Mamma has spokenFebruary 16, 2009 11:19 AMSorry to hear about your daughter's accident. Hopefully everything will be ok. Enjoy the day off work (I know hard to do when sitting in a doctor's office, many times I think work is better than that).
- Thanks! It looks like she will have a scar, but not a terrible one. Just can't wash her hair & such much for 4-5 days.
We are home finally - got there early since I also wanted to stop & pay the rest of my chiropractor's bill. Then 45 minutes after we were told to be there, we were still sitting there while others who came in after us were being called back - so finally I asked about it. I mean, even after he was called back, it was still another 2 hours before they could start the surgery - so about 4 1/2 hours after we got there, we left. But everything seems to have gone off well. - He convinced me this morning that he could now see better than he had been able to before his 1st surgery, so I didn't need to drive him to his follow-up appointment. And of course, he hasn't called to let me know how it went!
I was so tired last night! Couldn't believe it, could not keep my eyes open and if I had of gone to the gym to answer phones for E, I wouldn't even have been home yet by the time I fell asleep for the night. The dogs were even good & didn't potty in the house! But they were sure ready to go this morning!
