14 - 18" so far & still coming, but at least it's not 28" - originally posted 3/28/09

D has gotten out & off to work. Now if he has made it or not, I don't know. I woke up to him trying to dig his van out of the driveway. He had backed in near the street - not like me - I put mine up near the house! So if & when it stops, I will have a lot of digging to do to get mine out. We dug his wheels out about 4 times before a neighbor's friend's dad offered to tow it out to Blanchard. He wanted to get down the street a little further to get his 2nd truck out of our neighbor's driveway - both of which had 4 wd. I thought D wanted his to go off to the side of our street, but then realized the guy was towing it out to Blanchard - so went with it.

Last night, channel 12 (CBS) said that US 50 was
closed from Hutchinson to Garden City. US 54
from Pratt to the OK/KS border. US 56 had
portions closed as well, but I don't remember
what they were. This morning they are saying that we have between 14 to 18" on the ground, but that west of Pratt, they have gotten 28" so far and it is still coming down.

I took a picture of my foot & leg in the snow in our front yard to show how deep it is.

I pulled in by the end of the house yesterday - actually backed in, so if it stops, I will have a bit of
digging to get mine out - but can see about that either later today or tomorrow when it has stopped.

We actually have 6 steps up to our house, but you
can only see 4 in these pictures. The dogs insisted
they wanted to go out when I was heading out to
help D - so then they started whimpering to get
back in - must have thought I was punishing them.
I found where they pee'd on the 2nd step up -
thought they had either gotten all the way down or else that they just weren't going any farther. Don't really blame them, poor things - their bellies are only about 4-6" off the ground! But Fred has sure gotten soft in the last 2 winters. When we first got him in December 2006, he just romped through the drifts having fun. Now he wants to get back in the house.

D always gets in a hurry to turn off the furnace come spring and he did it to me again. I kept being cold yesterday, so turned on the oven and even ended up baking rolls while having it on. But just thought it was me. But this morning, the thermostat was down even lower. So I decided to look at the breaker box first since he has turned off the breaker before to keep the furnace from coming on without actually turning off the pilot on the furnace. But that wasn't turned off - so I checked & sure enough, the pilot had been turned off. So it is now going again!

Blogger doesn't like me this morning. I keep losing my pictures on here!

  1. Wow that's a lot of snow. I did see on the news where they closed the interstates out that way. Which makes me surprize that your dh went to work. Here in this area they have 'snow emergencies' and if you get caught out traveling during them, you get a really big ticket. Hope he gets home ok tonight.

  2. I haven't seen anything about Interstates in Kansas, but definitely US highways. As for getting a ticket for being out in it, since we don't usually get anything like this, I don't believe they have anything like that on the books here. And he is one to walk to work, if he can't drive.

  3. Tonight's news had Kansas and the snow storm on it. Looked really bad, hope you have electricty.
