Bond Knitting Machines

This post is just to have a reference on the Bond Knitting Machines.  I have not been able to locate a chart that gives the history of this brand of machine & I had a question in my mind about them.  So thought why not just make a post of my blog where I can list those that I either know of or learn about.  So if you know of versions that I don't list here that were created by Bond, email me with the details or post a comment, so that I can edit this post to make it as complete as possible.  I will even post pictures of them as I find those to be able to post.

Bond Elite - I believe this was about a 7mm machine & it had a ribber that could be added.

Bond Classic -

Bond Incredible Sweater Machine - this is an 8mm machine that came out originally in the 1980's I believe.  I bought my version at this time by mail order.  This came with the carriage that was gray in color & had the wire in the front.  It had clear keyplates numbered 1-4.  This machine came with 100 needles on the bed, with joins every 15 needles.

Bond Ultimate Sweater Machine - not sure when this version first appeared, but it is still being sold today at places like Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's Fabrics & possibly Michael's.  There may be other locations that would carry this machine.  This is also an 8mm machine.  It had had 2 versions of a purple carriage - 1 was slightly smaller than the other & the clear keyplates from the Bond ISM would not fit into the smaller version.  There was also the introduction of the "wings" being added to the carriage to help hold the knitted fabric back against the machine bed that made it easier for some at least, than the Bond ISM carriage with the wire.  Some of the "wings" worked better than others - so am thinking the ones that didn't work as well were also the ones on the carriage that was slightly smaller in size.  This machine came with 100 needles on the bed, with joins every 15 needles.

Bond Fashion Knitter - this machine was created, I believe, for Wal-mart to sell.  It is a scaled down version of the Bond USM that came with a non-skid piece so that it could just be set on the table without having to be clamped down to work with it.  This machine had the purple "winged" carriage & an intarsia plate that was adjustable from size 1-4.  This machine came with 50 needles on the bed, with joins every 15 needles.

All of the Bond beds, with maybe the exception of the Bond Elite can be connected to make a larger bed for things such as afghan or blankets.  There are expansions kits available to expand the bed, but a lot of knitters just seem to find another complete machine & then join the 2 machines together to form the larger bed.

If you can add any more information to this, please comment or email me!  I would greatly appreciate it!

Have fun & Happy Crafting until the next time!
